Here is some information that you might find useful. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
What kind of bike do I need?
These trips are intended for road bikes. However, a drop handle bar or flat is perfectly OK. As a number of these trips are predominently hilly a good number and range of gears is required. Compact or triple set ups are ok, it would be good if you had a gear or 2 in reserve from your normal riding.
For UK trips, particularly those that use Sustrans routes ie the C2C, bombproof, puncture resistant tyres are useful, 25 or 28 mm.
If you are looking to buy a bike and are not sure about some of these options please do not hesitate to contact us for advice.
Is a bike fit a good idea?
YES. You need to be fitted to a bike correctly, and this can depend on the type of riding you do, how comfy you want to be etc. If the fellow that sells you a bike stands you over the crossbar, has a quick look and says ‘that fits’ walk away and buy elsewhere. You can pay ₤30 to ₤100 + for a bike fit.
How fit do I need to be?
On the longer, hillier rides or holidays a good level of fitness is required. A number of the longer, Alpine cols may take 2 hours plus to ride up. But even if you have never contemplated cycling up Alpe d’Huez before a well structured training programme over the Winter and Spring could see you pedaling up here next Summer.
How many people are required to run a trip?
We price these trips to run if a minimum of 6 clients book (individuals or groups). If you book a trip and then it doesn’t run due to numbers you would get a full refund. Please ask about discounts for groups of 10 to 15 people.
Trips are priced for 2 sharing a double or twin room. If you would like your own room please ask. Rather than simply charging a blanket price for single supplements we will add on to your trip fee the additional cost for this. Some hotels that we use can provide single rooms.
Have we got anything to do with the official Sportive rides of these routes?
No, absolutely not and we don’t pretend to have. We organise small group rides on some of the most popular Sportive routes in Europe but we do not provide spaces on the actual events. If you’d like to do the official Sportive rides, which attract 1000s of riders each year, we’re more than happy to point you in the right direction. Many are lottery based so the chance of getting a place could be more luck than judgement.
I really want to do a trip but not on any of the advertised dates
We can run any of our trips for groups as bespoke bookings, please contact for details.
Do we hire out bikes for trips?
This is something I am looking closely at and would certainly consider if popular. Please by all means ask about this.
Transporting bikes and bags
On all of our continental trips we will transport your bike and bags for you as part of the trip cost. These are collected by prior arrangement either from your home or an agreed convenient location a couple of days before the trip dates. No need to dismantle bikes and no bike box or bag required.
